Cristiano Ronaldo's five-match ban is upheld

Real Madrid's appeal against Cristiano Ronaldo's five-match ban has been unsuccessful, with the Spanish FA's Competition Committee deciding to maintain it.The forward was sent off for two yellow cards during Sunday's Supercopa de Espana first leg, before pushing the referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, which earned him an additional four games to the automatic one-match ban which the red card carried.

While there was little expectation of overturning the four-match part of the sanction, there had been a hope that the second yellow card - given for an alleged dive - would be rescinded. It was not, so the No.7 will be unavailable for the second leg of the Supercopa de Espana against Barcelona and for Los Blancos' next four fixtures.
